Still Remains is an architectural project which catalogs abandoned buildings and restructures them into a fictitious urban city through the development of city plans, a physical 1/60 scale model and an interactive virtual landscape.
The objective of this project is to examine the amount of desolate structures that punctuate our neighborhoods and reconfigure them into a symbol of potential. The buildings within the new city will include ruins from past cultures, unfinished construction projects, and buildings destroyed through natural and man made disaster. Through creating a fictitious urban plan of forgotten buildings we will examine the magnitude of empty structures that exist.
The hope is that these vacant structures will be rebuilt and inhabited so they can serve the purpose which was intended. Questions can be asked to why that may not be possible or how to revitalize such blight, in the end an awareness of our architectural landscape and its failures will be gained.
Online environment
During the research I plan to investigate buildings in select cities and continue to expand worldwide to collect data and photos on these structures both residential and commercial. The methods in creating a tangible 1/60 scale city will follow technical and traditional procedures to urban planning. As a factory in Detroit, Michigan becomes resituated within the new city it will be given space in the Industrial District, just as a condominium from Miami, Florida will live in the Residential District.
